Sometimes, for one reason or another, a rebrand becomes necessary for an artist. For Forever, who previously went under the moniker tophillfreddo, his decision to change his artist name was informed by a feeling of burnout and a need to professionalize his craft.
The Virginia rapper’s first project as Forever is aptly titled Recovery and comes after a one-year break. It is a thrilling collection of melodic rap songs.
He teamed up with longtime collaborator FISH (a.k.a. Jarrod Fisher) for the production, which is characterized by bouncy trap beats, distorted basslines and melodic synths. Forever makes use of his lyrical skills to deliver emotionally resonant songs.
The lead single, “Backroads” is especially engaging (watch his On The Radar performance below). I’ve really enjoyed listening to this tape and can’t wait to hear what Forever has in store for us.
Born Wilfried Sane-Aka in Ivory Coast, he moved to the US as a baby. As tophillfreddo, Forever had made music for a longtime. He is surely an artist to watch.
