Tennin‘s musical evolution stems from both her constant quest for a more potent medium to express herself and the various musical influences that have shaped her as an artist.
The French singer and rapper started out penning hip hop verses before embracing R&B for emotional impact, later even experimenting with alternative styles like trip hop. She seems to be settling in indie R&B, as indicated by her latest songs.
Tennin first crossed my radar in 2022, when she dropped “Trapped Again”, an old-school R&B cut featuring producer maticulous and rapper Justo the MC. In spite of her massive talent, she has remained bubbling under. Until now.
Following her “Ceux Qui Restent“ single, which dropped in January, she recently returned with the poignant “Morphée” — both songs were produced by co-writer Bouncle D’Or and sung entirely in French.
“Morphée” is a well crafted alt-R&B track. Layering moody synths over crisp percussive elements, its production complements Tennin’s introspective, harmony-laden delivery. In her voice, you can feel a fragility that’s laced with resilience, each lyric resonating with the listener.
“This song refers to my personal and silent struggles, which at times turned into nightmares,” Tennin says. “When I created this track with Boucle d’Or, listening to its rhythms and epic melodies gave me a sense of strength to find peace in the face of certain past challenges. I hope that everyone will be able to project their own story onto it and draw the strength to hold their head up during difficult times.”
