Chicago artists Cam Be and Neak finally unveiled their collaborative album, A Film Called Black the other week.
The 16-track project was released independently by the two (A Film Called Black is also the name of duo). Cam and Neak have been close collaborators for a long time, at least since I first heard their music half a decade ago.
With production that’s in line with the duo’s aesthetic, A Film Called Black is everything I expected it to be. The album is one part lyrical, the other part soulful and uplifting. Its pursuit of authenticity is excellent and refreshing.
Featured acts such as J. Ivy and Johnny Burgos (on the title track “Buttafly”) or Oliv Blu (on “Salutations”) were sold on the essence of the album, elevating the vibe with their contributions.
