After releasing his Cry Havoc! EP in 2022, Austin-based artist Mobley took a break from releasing music, taking time to tour extensively across America. He returned last October — two years later — with a new single called “Y’r Ghost“. That song song kickstarted the rollout of his new album, We Do Not Fear Ruins, which is out now.

We Do Not Fear Ruins is a concept album whose sound shows diverse influences, from soul and pop to indie and alternative styles. Preceded by the music video for “Yesterday’s Another Day” (watch above), the 16-song LP arrived with the focus track, “Now Forever”, also paired with riveting visuals.

Sonically and aesthetically, We Do Not Fear Ruins takes us back to the early 80’s.

When I listened to some of the songs in the air during that period, I was stunned by the incredible diversity of popular music,” Mobley remarks. “You had Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson, but new wave and funk were still happening. Pop and country were doing a bunch of interesting things. R&B was huge, and there were the first rumblings of hip-hop, as well as vestigial traces of disco.

This is an impressive album that needed a few listens. Stream We Do Not Fear Ruins below via Spotify and don’t forget to connect with Mobley on Instagram.
