I can’t believe that the much anticipated debut album by Halifax-based band Strange Plants is already here. The Canadian outfit got us completely hooked earlier this year when they released their first single, “Tell Me All Your Secrets Pt. 2“.
A couple of lovely tunes followed, familiarizing us with Strange Plants’ sound –indie rock infused with funky soulful elements. Now, with this 12-track album, listeners get a full serving.
The focus track “Hot Tonight” is a dance-inducing breakup song. “Right after the breakup, I was lying in bed at the peak of summer, just hot and bothered,” band member Matt Brannon says about the song. “No AC, no peace of mind. That’s where the title came from. I just kept staring at the ceiling.”
Listening to the whole album is quite enthralling. Stream it below via Spotify and connect with Strange Plants on Instagram.
